Review

Free download manager is an efficient, easy to use download manager released under GNU GPL, i.e. it's open source software. It lets you download files from various websites or servers through HTTP, HTTPS & FTP. It gets its incredible speed by splitting the download file into many parts (a maximum of 999!) and then downloading them all simultaneously. This increases the speed of download as well as allows you to efficiently use your whole bandwidth. It also has a special feature, with the help of which you can give your browser a higher priority than your download, so that you can browse at faster speed while downloading. One special addition to the manager is the video grabber. It helps you to grab videos from sites like Youtube, MySpace videos, Dailymotion, Yahoo, etc. That means you can download videos right away instead of having to wait for them to load onto your browser. And then using its built-in converter you can just convert video files into other formats like mpeg4, divx etc. It also has a built-in service of checking your download for virus infections by linking with your antivirus and thus safeguarding your computer. The program also lets you read about other FDM users' opinions about a download and thus saves you from useless or malicious downloads. It can also link with torrent downloads and thus save your time and money.

The software's different mode feature allows you to shift between various default settings to optimize your internet and memory usage. It can also resume broken downloads so that you don’t have to re-download the same file after casual interruptions. Also the application warns you about whether the file can be resumed or not. It saves the various passwords you have for downloading sites thus reducing your headache of remembering them. It has a resizable history memory, so you can re-download any of your past downloads, if you accidently deleted them. Also there is no need to reboot your computer after installing FDM (unlike other download managers), saving your precious time. It can be scheduled to start at the start up of computer and to exit, hang up the connection, or shutdown your pc, after the download is over.

All in all, if you are looking for a simple solution to all your downloading problems FDM 2.5 is the answer…..

Excellent program, though I have not tried many other download managers/accelerators I can't call it the best out there. It gets the job done, but at times I find it intrusive.
